Understand the difference between a wallet code, a digital gift and a game key before selecting a Steam gift card.

Identify the type of Steam gift
Before choosing a gift, check what the recipient will receive. These similarly named items do different things:
- Game key: a code for a specific game or edition. Use Steam’s product activation process.
- Wallet code: a code redeemed toward a Steam Wallet balance, rather than a named game.
- Steam digital gift: a gift sent to a friend through Steam’s own gifting flow. It is distinct from receiving a retailer’s wallet code.

Check the listing’s currency and region
SHIDEN’s sample $50 Steam gift card specifies a United States account and a USD wallet. Those are conditions of this sample listing, not a statement that every Steam gift worldwide has the same restriction.
For digital gifts purchased directly through Steam, Valve says the value converts to the recipient’s currency. It also notes that country restrictions can appear during checkout or recipient selection. Consult Steam’s digital gift card FAQ for that gifting flow.
For a retailer’s code, read its own conditions and Steam’s current redemption guidance before ordering. If the seller specifies a region or currency that differs from the recipient’s account, ask the seller to confirm compatibility. Do not infer worldwide acceptance from a currency symbol or a game’s availability.
A useful gift note records the platform, value, currency, region conditions and whether the recipient receives a code or a direct gift. That gives you a concrete checklist when comparing listings.
Redeem a Steam Wallet code
Open Steam’s official wallet redemption page and sign in to the intended account. Follow the displayed instructions for your code and review the result. Steam explains that wallet credit can be used for purchases on its platform.
